I've been working on re-doing my website since the start of the year, but because there's no pressing need or firm deadline it's been sitting at 95% complete for months.

So, here it is: https://random.fangirling.net/

I've also made backup copies of all my fanworks from AO3 to the site: https://random.fangirling.net/works/

I'm using PicoCMS, which is easy to use as promised, but as with all such things the exception is when you want to do something they didn't plan for. Using Markdown for my content is a nice compromise between having a WYSIWYG editor and writing plain HTML (but I can still write plain HTML if I want to!).

I added a light mode/dark mode toggle, but only on desktop - on mobile it defaults to how you have your device set. I'm planning to add a toggle button for mobile once I figure out a good place for it. (Because I want to support IE10+ and thus could not use CSS variables this was a bit of a headache, but I think I got there in the end... Although on reflection I think I only tested in IE11. Hmm.) Anyway, I don't use dark mode myself so tell me if these colours are good for you if you do!

As always I try for screenreader compatibility and general accessibility, so feedback on that is also welcome.

This looks very cool, but none of the links seem to be working- when I click on them, I get a 404.

Oops, seems like it doesn't like it when the URLs don't have trailing slashes... try https://random.fangirling.net/scripts/ and I'll work on it in the meantime!

It turns out the actual problem was that Pico uses URLs without a trailing slash, and if you use relative URLs in your Markdown your browser will assume you want them relative to the same directory as the current page, ie. if you're on /scripts and you make your link to href="ao3_additional_filters" it will assume you want /ao3_additional_filters, not /scripts/ao3_additional_filters.

I couldn't find any obvious way around this so I've just given up on relative links for now! And I've added a redirect to remove all trailing slashes for better SEO (lol).

Oh, I'm still at 98%, the final step is redirecting all the old script pages to their new locations... but part of me is still completely convinced that it's all broken and they'll stop working as soon as I do that /o\

lol, not exactly an unfounded fear...but you could always revert it if you had to I guess??
