A Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon Episode Guide

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture (because there are none) I decided to collate all references to specific episodes of fictional serial Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon in the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. This proved to be less informative than I thought it would be, but I'm posting it anyway!

I've redacted Network Effect spoilers (there was only one).

Episode 1: Gives all the detail about the Colony Solicitor’s secret backstory as a corporate espionage agent/opera production manager [FR]

Episode 44: The colony solicitor’s bodyguard and best friend had just been crushed under debris while trying to save a transport mech trapped in a crash. [0.5]

Again, I couldn’t help it. I said, “She didn’t kill him, that’s a fucking lie.”

Wilken had cut me out of her feed connection, but I used Abene’s to bypass the block: *This is SecUnit. We can talk about this. Consultant Rin can offer you immunity from prosecution if you testify.* I hoped that made sense (it was a line from Sanctuary Moon) [...] *Your bosses are going down. Whatever they paid you, it won’t make up for a stint in prison.* (Yeah, that was from Sanctuary Moon, too.) [3]

Disinformation, which is the same as lying but for some reason has a different name, is the top tactic in corporate negotiation/warfare. (There had been a whole episode about it on Sanctuary Moon.) [4]

The one where they found out the Terraforming Supervisor was still alive, and behind the whole plot to deregulate the colony’s mining franchise which had been blamed on the Colony Solicitor, so she and her bodyguard and the Mech Transport Crewmember and the Mystery Person from the level 7 airshaft and the Food Service Staffing Manager fake her death, and she comes to her own memorial service. THANK YOU! This is very important work you have done.

I keep trying to figure out what the heck a "Sanctuary Moon" is, given its use here and its in Star Wars are both quite opaque!

(Okay I tell a lie, I actually keep trying to figure out how to make Murderbot's Sanctuary Moon actually be about Ewoks.)

According to Martha Wells Sanctuary Moon is based on How to Get Away with Murder, which doesn't really make sense to me based on what I've documented above, but then again, I haven't actually watched either of them... (Worldhoppers is based on Stargate SG1/Atlantis, which I could probably have guessed XD)

So I guess what I'm saying is that the author's opinion is irrelevant and you can definitely make it about Ewoks.

In case you haven't read it, I just checked HOME, the short story that the publisher offered to people buying the physical book of Network Effect. No references to Sanctuary Moon or other media shows.

Thank you so much for checking! The small print for that offer said it was only available to residents of US/Canada, so I just got the ebook (which meant it was very easy to search for this list, at least).
