Qantas lets you use their inflight entertainment system during takeoff so I loaded up an episode of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, which I've never watched.
It turned out to have on-screen decapitation and plenty of blood. So I then had to endure the plane taking off while I did my very very best not to faint and/or throw up.
I'm at the point now when I can recognize the symptoms when I am really actually going to pass out (vision darkening, skin prickling, nausea, etc) but I couldn't exactly lie down with my feet elevated, so I had to make do with really deep breaths and closing my eyes.
And it worked, but that was probably the worst takeoff I've ever had and I've learned a valuable lesson about watching crime shows on planes.
