PSA: If your Firefox addons have suddenly stopped working...

...don't do anything to try and fix it before you read this post from Mozilla about what's happened and what they're doing about it.

For an immediate fix, they want me to enable "Firefox Studies" to install the update, which appears to allow Mozilla to make arbitrary changes to Firefox without any notification, so you'll understand if I'm hesitant to turn that on.

In the meantime, I guess I'll just... wait. With my Tampermonkey-less browser. And hope that disabling Firefox Containers hasn't leaked any cookies anywhere (and same goes for Ghostery, for that matter).

Sigh.

Anyway, I was saying. So far so good for me, which is weird, I wonder why some browsers are fucked up while others are fine (so far).

At worst, I can move to Chrome if necessary (I usually only have it opened for Google related website that don't work out too well on Firefox, and Tweetdeck). But even if I have the same/equivalent privacy addons on Chrome (Ghostery, Disconnect, Privacy Badger, Ublock, and Cookie AutoDelete), I don't like using Chrome as my main.

Same though regarding Firefox Studies. It feels... hum. I'd rather just wait with another browser than enabling that thing.

Hmm, yeah, I should try one of my other computers to see if they all have this problem.

Chrome has a handful of features I prefer over Firefox - I definitely prefer its profile switching feature - but I'd still rather stick to Firefox! I just hope that this incident isn't a symptom of further negligence issues to come, you know?

I've never tried using the profile switching, now that I think about it. But same, I prefer Firefox, even if I always use both.
It would be very worrying if it were a sign, what with Firefox being one of the very few browser making an effort to look to care about privacy :(

I'm just going to wait, too. I don't trust Mozilla enough to turn on their so-called "studies." I figure if they broke my browser without my permission, they can fix it that way too.

Yeeeah, I mean, I habitually turn off "anonymous" usage statistics to begin with, and extending that process to include installing new code on my browser is just... no thanks.
