I decided it was finally time to tackle the most recent Ace Attorney game to be localised in English (which was released in 2016).

I'm enjoying the puzzle-solving gameplay and the characters, as always, but I'm finding the new prosecutor this game introduces extremely frustrating and I need to rant about it a bit.

Spoilers follow:

This game introduces a new country, the origin of Maya's spirit channeling technique and where she is doing some training. In this country, murder trials are conducted by having a spirit medium channel the victim's final moments and presenting this to the judge. Defense lawyers are not illegal as such but a) since they challenge the authenticity of the spirit channeling, a core tenet of the state religion, they are believed to be evil, and b) if they lose the trial they share the sentence with the accused.

The outcome of this is that, in addition to the traditional insults regarding the defense's intelligence, the prosecution spends the whole time telling the defense how despicable and repugnant they are and how they are going to hell, in intimate detail.

It fills me with incandescent rage and it's not fun for me. Even the promise that I am very likely to prove the accused innocent by the end of the trial is not enough to make up for how unpleasant I'm finding the trial process.

For extra fun times, as we all know, players need to have an emotional connection to the defendant, so both Trucy and Maya have been on trial for murder so far.

Ughhh. I'm going to continue but... Well. I want my objection noted.
